Pastor Sean Gasperetti
Born and raised in the Snohomish area, Pastor Sean is a true native of the PNW. Having been raised in a 1st-generation Christian household, Sean had the opportunity to observe parents who were saved independently of their own families — beloved disciples who strived to follow Jesus and raise their kids to do likewise. In his early teens, Sean surrendered his life to Jesus personally, responding with a gritty, yet, honest prayer: "Jesus, I will follow you until the day I die." A few decades later, that prayer remains anchoring in Sean's life and fuels his desire to help others live out a similar invitation.
Sean spent many years as a worship leader, leading at conferences, camps, and churches of all sizes. He also spent a few years as a touring musician, obtaining unique insights into the world of pop-culture as well as unconventional ministry experience in secular spaces. Eventually, Sean stepped into full-time ministry taking a role as a Youth Pastor in 2009. Over the course of the next 10 years, Sean would serve in a few churches as a Worship Pastor, Creative Arts Pastor, and Associate Pastor, eventually being invited to join the team at Reach Church (Kirkland, WA) as a Church Planting Resident. With a robust variety of ministry experiences behind him, a degree in Pastoral Ministry, and a heart surrendered to God's plan, Sean and Kara stepped out in faith and in 2017 planted a church in Downtown Everett — a place their hearts had been burdened by for years.
If you were to ask Sean what matters most to him as a pastor, one word would likely rise to the surface: faithfulness. Whether it's the demise of a large ministry or a prominent leader deconstructing their way out of Christianity, it seems that slow, steady, faithful leaders are hard to come by these days. For Sean, finishing well (years from now, Lord-willing) and helping others to develop a lifelong plan for discipleship is of utmost importance. The Apostle Paul writes in 2 Timothy 4:7, "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." More than the stereotypical goals of church growth or pastoral notoriety, Sean desires to lead a Gospel-centered, Spirit-filled church that is marked by faithfulness over the long-haul. In recent years, Reach has grown in both health and size, and while Sean plays a part, it's truly the community at large that is carrying the vision forward.
Family and Personal Life:
Sean and Kara have been married since 2008 and have 2 kids, Adelie (8) and Leo (5). While Sean grew up in the area, Kara is originally from northern BC, Canada and occasionally lets her Canadian accent slip out. Together, they are passionate about investing in married couples, those struggling with infertility (part of their own journey), playing live music, advocating for the sanctity of life, and sowing into their family generationally to know the Gospel and love Jesus.
On the side, Kara teaches piano to young people (nearly 20 years of experience) while Sean designs and sells t-shirts as a creative outlet. While Sean is the primary contributor to the life of the church, Kara also plays an important role behind the scenes and is known among the staff as our "best kept secret" for wisdom, discernment, and of course, support of her husband.
