Hey there.

Encountering God

March 9 | Discipleship Guide

Be Real Together:

Take a few minutes to catch up, tell stories, and laugh together. Trust and friendship take time to build. If you’re launching a new DG, one person should tell their story — what do we need to know about you? Next week, have another person in your DG share their story.

Read Together: 1 Samuel 3:1-10 CSB

This week, we explored what it means to Encounter God. Samuel grew up around the things of God but had yet to personally experience Him. It wasn’t until he responded to God's call with “Speak, Lord, for your servant is listening” that his life was transformed. Like Samuel, we are invited to posture ourselves to recognize and respond to God’s presence. Encountering God isn’t a rare event—it’s something we can experience daily through Scripture, the Holy Spirit, and community.

The One Question:
Ask this question at your family meal or Discipleship Group.

How are you positioning yourself to encounter God in your daily life?

Grow Together:
Use these questions to go deeper with your DG or for personal study.

  1. We Encounter God in Scripture.
    • The Bible is the clearest way God reveals Himself to us. Hebrews 4:12 says, "For the word of God is living and effective..."
    • How consistently are you engaging with Scripture? What would help you make time to hear from God in His Word?
  2. We Encounter God through the Holy Spirit.
    • The Spirit sanctifies us, illuminates truth, and directs our lives (John 14:26, Romans 8:14).
    • When have you sensed the Holy Spirit leading you? How can you grow in dependence on Him?
  3. We Encounter God with the Saints (His Church).
    • God places us in community to encourage and challenge one another (Hebrews 10:24-25).
    • Who are your people—those who disciple, encourage, and walk with you? How can you strengthen those relationships?

Pray Together:

Take time to pray with and for each other.

Suggested Prayer Prompts:
  • Ask God for open hearts to hear and recognize His voice.
  • Pray for a deeper hunger for Scripture and a greater awareness of the Holy Spirit’s guidance.
  • Lift up your community, asking God to strengthen relationships that encourage and build up faith.
