Hey there.

Listen to Jesus!

February 9 | Discipleship Guide

Be Real Together:

Take a few minutes to catch up, tell stories, and laugh together. Trust and friendship take time to build. If you’re launching a new DG, one person should tell their story — what do we need to know about you? Next week, have another person in your DG share their story.

Read Together: Matthew 17:1-13 CSB

This week, we explored the Transfiguration—when Peter, James, and John witnessed Jesus in His full glory. As heaven met earth on the mountain, God the Father affirmed Jesus with the command: "Listen to Him!" This passage reminds us that spiritual experiences are not the goal—following and obeying Jesus is. We don’t need to chase moments; we need to chase Jesus.

The One Question:
Ask this question at your family meal or Discipleship Group.

How can you posture your heart to truly listen to Jesus in your daily life?

Grow Together:
Use these questions to go deeper with your DG or for personal study.

  1. Peter wanted to capture the moment on the mountain by building shelters (Matthew 17:4). In what ways do we sometimes try to contain or control our experience of God instead of simply following Him?
  2. When God spoke, He didn’t give the disciples a to-do list—He simply said, "Listen to Him!" What are some distractions in your life that make it hard to hear Jesus clearly?
  3. Jesus’ presence brought both awe and comfort—the disciples fell in fear, but Jesus reached out and said, "Do not be afraid" (Matthew 17:6-7). How have you experienced both reverence for God and His gentle grace in your walk with Him?

Pray Together:

Take time to pray with and for each other.

Suggested Prayer Prompts:
  • Ask God to remove distractions and open your ears to truly listen to Jesus.
  • Pray for the courage to follow Jesus, even when it’s uncomfortable or uncertain.
  • Thank Jesus for meeting us with both His glory and His grace—leading us with power and love.
