Jesus Sanctifies

September 29 | Discipleship Guide

Be Real Together:

Take a few minutes to catch up, tell stories, and laugh together. Trust and friendship take time to build. If you’re launching a new DNA, one person should tell their story — what do we need to know about you? Next week, have another person in your DNA share their story.

Read Together: Psalm 24:1-6 ESV

Sanctification is both a positional and ongoing reality where believers are set apart as holy through Christ’s sacrifice and continuously transformed into Christ's image through proximity to His presence.
True holiness is not merely moral improvement but becoming like Christ, and this transformation happens as we draw near to Him through spiritual disciplines.

The One Question:
Ask this question at your family meal or Discipleship Group.

When you think of Holiness, what comes to mind? Is it morality or proximity to Jesus?
Whatever your answer is, why do see Holiness this way?

Grow Together:
Use these questions to go deeper with your DG or for personal study.

  1. How does knowing that you are already positionally holy in Christ change the way you view yourself ?
  2. In what ways can you draw closer to Christ to experience transformation through His presence?
  3. What sources of identity—such as your achievements, possessions, or desires—are competing with your holy identity in Christ?
  4. How do you see the "already but not yet" reality of sanctification playing out in your life right now?
  5. Does understanding Jesus as both the goal of sanctification and the agent of change help your pursuit of holiness?

Practice Together:
Pick one of these Spiritual Disciplines to practice.

Discuss as a group which disciple you will practice, be ready so that you can keep each other accountable.
FASTING - Pick one day this week to engage in 12 -24hr fast. As you fast consider what blessings Christ has given you.

COMMUNION - Pick one meal this week to read 1 Corinthians 11:23-29 and take part in the Lord's supper. As you do consider you heavenly position in Christ.

FIXED HOUR PRAYER - Pick an hour of your day (that you can regularly return to throughout this week) to dedicate to prayer. As you pray, focus your prayers on surrendering earthly desires in exchange for desiring Jesus.
When your group gathers again, discuss your experience of these Spiritual Disciplines.
If they were hard, celebrate drawing near to Jesus through resistance. If they were easy, celebrate the grace of God.
Take time to remind each other that despite our experience of the disciplines, God is Faithful. God is Present.

Pray Together:

Take time to pray with and for each other.
