Jesus Sends

October 13 | Discipleship Guide

Be Real Together:

Take a few minutes to catch up, tell stories, and laugh together. Trust and friendship take time to build. If you’re launching a new DG, one person should tell their story — what do we need to know about you? Next week, have another person in your DG share their story.

Read Together: Matthew 28:18-20 CSB

This week pastor Sean taught us about how Jesus Sends Us. In Matthew 28 Jesus called his disciples to him and sent them to make disciples of all nations. As Tim Keller said, “God is already in mission and [we] must join Him.” Sean discussed three ways that Jesus sends each of us: to bear his image, love our neighbors, and make disciples

The One Question:
Ask this question at your family meal or Discipleship Group.

Do you know that God designed you for a purpose and a calling?
What does this mean for your life?

Grow Together:
Use these questions to go deeper with your DG or for personal study.

Bear His Image
1. As Gods creation we are called to create culture, and community that reflects God’s vision for our world.
What does it look like for you to bear God’s image in your daily life?

Love Your Neighbors
2. We are only able to love our neighbors because God first loved us. Sometimes it’s easy to get caught up in all the good things we can do FOR God however, Pastor Sean asked us this week to check in first by asking yourself: "Do I really belong TO God?"

Make Disciples

3. Jon Tyson once said “Bored people have entertainment. Consumers have preferences. Religious people have rules. Busy people have lists. Missional people have stories." In other words, all of us are sharing something with our communities.
What are you evangelizing in your life?

Practice Together:
Pick one of these Spiritual Disciplines to practice.

Discuss as a group which disciple you will practice, be ready so that you can keep each other accountable.
LISTENING PRAYER - Spend an agreed amount of time in silent prayer with your Discipleship group, ask Jesus where He is already on mission in your life and where you should join him. Share your thoughts and impressions with the group, discuss what engaging that mission looks like (ie. prayer, evangelism, service, ect,).

PREACHING THE GOSPEL - While evangelism is often understood as a spiritual gift, it also a discipline for all of us to practice, including those of us who are not gifted or extraverted. Consider with your DG how you might intentionally share the Gospel with someone in your life. It doesn't have to be weird, in fact the most natural and seamless way is probably to invite someone for a meal and ask if you can share your testimony.
When your group gathers again, discuss your experience of these Spiritual Disciplines.
If they were hard, celebrate drawing near to Jesus through resistance. If they were easy, celebrate the grace of God.
Take time to remind each other, that despite our experience of the disciplines, God is Faithful. God is Present.

Pray Together:

Take time to pray with and for each other.
