Five Stones
August 20 | DNA Guide
Be Real Together:
Take a few minutes to catch up, tell stories, and laugh together. Trust and friendship take time to build. If you’re launching a new DNA, one person should tell their story — what do we need to know about you? Next week, have another person in your DNA share their story.
The One Question:
Ask this question at your family meal or DNA.
Observing the life of Timothy in the New Testament, Pastor Bob shared 5 stones that Timothy had built his life and faith upon:
- Christ, the Cornerstone
- Spiritual Heritage
- Sincere Faith
- Scripture
- Spoken words of affirmation & encouragement from other followers of Jesus
Read & Grow Together:
Use these questions to go deeper with your DNA or for personal study.
Read and discuss the following Scripture related to the 5 stones:
Pastor Bob referred to a concept Pastor Sean taught during the Discipleshift series: Portable Discipleship. Take a look at the framework and talk about which areas you feel most practiced, and which areas you want to grow in. Why?
Is Christ the “precious” cornerstone of your life? When you encounter hardships of many kinds, do you default to trusting him?
- Christ, the Cornerstone: Matthew 21:42 (CSB) "Jesus said to them, 'Have you never read in the Scriptures: The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone. This is what the Lord has done and it is wonderful in our eyes?'"
- Spiritual Heritage: Hebrews 12:1-2 (CSB) "Therefore, since we also have such a large cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us lay aside every hindrance and the sin that so easily ensnares us. Let us run with endurance the race that lies before us, keeping our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of our faith. For the joy that lay before him, he endured the cross, despising the shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God."
- Sincere Faith: 1 John 3:18 (CSB) "Little children, let us not love in word or speech, but in action and in truth."
- Scripture: 2 Timothy 3:16-17 (CSB) "All Scripture is inspired by God[a] and is profitable for teaching, for rebuking, for correcting, for training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work."
- Spoken words of affirmation:
- Hebrews 3:12-13 (CSB) "Watch out, brothers and sisters, so that there won’t be in any of you an evil, unbelieving heart that turns away from the living God. But encourage each other daily, while it is still called today, so that none of you is hardened by sin’s deception."
- Hebrews 10:24-25 (CSB) "And let us consider one another in order to provoke love and good works, not neglecting to gather together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging each other, and all the more as you see the day approaching."
