Prayer + Fasting
July 2 | DNA Guide
Be Real Together:
Take a few minutes to catch up, tell stories, and laugh together. Trust and friendship take time to build. If you’re launching a new DNA, one person should tell their story — what do we need to know about you? Next week, have another person in your DNA share their story.
Read Together: Matthew 6:5-18 CSB
The One Question:
Ask this question at your family meal or DNA.
How can we avoid turning prayer and fasting into legalistic rituals?
Grow Together:
Use these questions to go deeper with your DNA or for personal study.
- Jesus gave us an example of how to pray in Matthew 6:9-14 when he prayed the Lord's prayer. How can we use the Lord’s prayer as a model for our own prayers?
- Forgiveness is mentioned frequently in the New Testament and Jesus reiterated its importance as he closed out his prayer in Matthew 6. How does Jesus say harboring unforgiveness hinder our prayers?
- Fasting can feel tedious and confusing if we don't have a clear picture of why we are using this spiritual muscle. What is the purpose of fasting in a Christian's life?
- Prayer is one of many beautiful methods we use to engage with God. How can we guard against mindless repetition or empty words in our prayers?
- Jesus encourages us to pray in our private rooms. Why is it important to have a dedicated space for prayer?
Pray Together:
Take time to pray with and for each other.
