Tempted
April 2 | DNA Guide
Be Real Together:
Take a few minutes to catch up, tell stories, and laugh together. Trust and friendship take time to build. If you’re launching a new DNA, one person should tell their story — what do we need to know about you? Next week, have another person in your DNA share their story.
Read Together: Matthew 4:1-11 CSB
The One Question:
Ask this question at your family meal or DNA.
How are you inspired by how Jesus responds to each temptation thrown his way?
Grow Together:
Use these questions to go deeper with your DNA or for personal study.
- How do you currently approach temptation? (i.e. Do you try to "white knuckle" your way though it? Do you talk to people about it? Do you ignore it? Do you pray?)
- "The psychological construct of temptation is understood largely to be the undesirable conflict between short-term urges and long-term ideals," (Dr. Jon R. Webb). How does this fit with how you've experienced temptation?
- The three temptations Jesus faces are self-gratification (see verse 3), self-protection (see verses 5-6), and self-exaltation (see verse 9). Are you struggling with any of these temptations? What has that looked like for you?
- Jesus overcame temptation with God's Word, by trusting that He's secure, and by worshipping God. How are you feeling challenged to overcome temptation that you're facing?
Pray Together:
Take time to pray with and for each other.
